Between Places - Demo
A downloadable game
This is a demo of my first game. I've done what I could to eliminate bugs and errors; however, there may or may not be some hidden I couldn't find. Please read to the end for recommended system specs.
Something has always felt... off for you for the longest time, things around your house going missing when you knew they shouldn't, the sound of buzzing could be heard at odd hours of the day for a short period of time but with no source.
You think you are going crazy, but maybe you should accept it and try to find out what's going on. You find yourself in a empty place, surrounded by yellow wallpaper, brown wet carpet and the non-stop buzz of ceiling lights.
You don't know where you are or what to do, but what you do know is that you need to keep moving forward. Explore the endless rooms, the depths of the backrooms as you struggle to keep moving. Where will it take you? Are you alone? Is there a way out? Only you can discover by diving deep into the halls.
Welcome to Between Places, an exploration-based Liminal Backrooms game where you wander around and discover the eeriness of being in places you should really be. As you wander the halls, you may discover notes from lost wanders or notes from the DeepDive research company, detailing lore of the rooms.
That's not all, throughout your exploration, you'll need to keep an eye on your sanity level, find and consume items to restore your sanity, find and complete simple puzzles, and watch out for those deep pits that might not do you any good.
Features:
Sanity System: Over time your sanity level will drop, indicated by the blue bar in view port. A visual warning at 25% sanity left. Items can be consumed to gain sanity back.
Sanity Punishment: If you die, you'll respawn within the level you died in. If you died from anything other than running out of sanity, you'll respawn with a small amount of sanity taken from you. If you die due to no sanity, you'll respawn with 50% of your full sanity bar.
Alt routes: Some levels have alt routes to explore.
Inventory System: A simple yet decent inventory to carry your consumables.
Note System: Find lost notes from previous wanders and or companies that may give details into the place you are in. Sanity doesn't pause when interacting with note.
Built in tutorial zone: The first area is a built-in immersion zone, teaching you the basics of Between Places without feeling too wild. Sanity is paused in this zone.
Mystery Null Zone Doors: You may or may not find a room with a select number of doors on a raised platform. These doors act like Null Zones that will take you to an unexplored area of the level you're in, however, it's a one way trip. Since this is the demo, you will be able to return at the end of the demo to explore other alt routes/doors
Warning:
This is my first ever game, Models/assets and textures are hand crafted by me apart from sfx and music that I sourced online.
If you were previously a demo tester, please ensure you head to C:\Users\Your username\AppData\Local\ and delete the BetweenPlaces folder, it contains any save files you may have generated during the demo test build.
Playlength:
Roughly 20 to 90 minutes.
Supporting System:
Windows 11
Type:
Singpleplayer
System Specs:
Between Places is heavy on GPU thanks to Lumen. No lower than a RTX 1060 with at least 6GB of VRAM and no less than 6-8GB of Ram.
Some integrated graphics cards may or may not be able to run/launch my game.
Maybe no lower than 1060 without fps issues. Not 100% sure, through development, I've used a RTX 3060 and before packaging, and inside the editor, I got anywhere from 70fps to 110 fps depending on the location, all on High settings. Higher with a packaged build.
If you have a low end pc, recommend you play without anything else running.

If you like Backrooms/Liminal space games then definitely give this a try, atmospheric and challenging without being annoying, excellent sound design and great visuals. That a solo dev has produced this is quite staggering. Strongly recommended.
Thank you so much!! Honestly, as a new and solo dev, like any other like-minded creators, we are all fearful of how others see our games from their perspectives because we know not everyone is going to enjoy it, but it's also a major relief when a comment like yours rolls in, thank you so much for playing my demo and enjoying the hard work I put into doing what I can to ensure players have the best time they can with my game.
